Forfar patients offered ‘catch up’ flu vaccination clinics

People in Forfar have another chance to protect themselves against flu at two catch up sessions this week.

Patients over the age of 65, adults of all ages with long-term chronic health conditions, such as heart, lung, or kidney diseases, and also their carers are invited to attend the sessions at Whitehills Health and Community Care Centre from 6-9pm on Wednesday 11 December and 8am-6pm on Saturday 14 December.

Clinics have been running at Whitehills since September with patients asked to attend sessions based on their surname and GP practice. The clinics this week will be the last opportunity this year for any eligible patients who couldn’t attend the previous sessions to drop in and get vaccinated.

Consultant in Public Health Medicine Dr Daniel Chandler said, “We arranged a large number of clinic dates to ensure that all patients who wish to receive their vaccination are able to do so.  We hope that the weekend and evening clinics and the wide range of hours available have made it easier for people to access their flu vaccine.

“Well over 4,000 people have already been vaccinated in Forfar, including around two thirds of all those aged 65 or older.  We hope that more people in the area will be able to attend these additional sessions to protect themselves against flu this winter.

“Patient feedback so far has been really positive and all feedback gathered throughout the clinics will be used to help develop the service for Forfar and Angus more widely next year.”

As part of the national Vaccination Transformation Programme, NHS Tayside has been running a pilot in North West Angus with patients who are registered with practices in the area being invited to attend vaccination clinics at Whitehills and Kirriemuir Health Centre.

The Vaccination Transformation Programme is a three-year programme which will see responsibility for the delivery of immunisations move from GPs to NHS Boards. NHS Tayside is leading the way in Scotland by introducing a test of these changes during this year’s flu season.
