Professor Rory McCrimmon has been appointed as Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Dundee.
Rory has been Interim Dean of the School since May 2018, and takes up the substantive appointment with effect from 1 August 2019. He is also an honorary consultant with NHS Tayside and will continue his clinical work.
Rory joined the University in 2009, having previously been at Yale University Medical School. He is Professor of Experimental Diabetes and Metabolism, and one of Scotland’s leading researchers in diabetes.
Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dundee Professor Andrew Atherton said, “In making the appointment of the Dean we invited external applications and attracted candidates from around the world. From a very strong field, Rory was the standout candidate.
“Under his leadership the School of Medicine can grow its reputation as one of the leading medical schools in the United Kingdom, building on its excellence in teaching and research.”
