Food@5 and the restaurant in Whitehills Health and Community Care Centre in Forfar celebrated ten years of holding the Healthy Living award for ensuring that at least 70% of the food on offer is a healthy option.
The Healthy Living Award Plus is a higher level of award and recognises an organisation’s commitment to provide and support healthy eating. NHS Tayside is committed to providing healthy food to patients, staff and visitors.
Staff from the restaurants attended the event in Glasgow which was hosted by chef Gary MacLean, 2016 winner of the TV show, ‘MasterChef: The Professionals’.
David Bayne, Retail Catering Services Manager said, “I am delighted that both food@5 and Whitehills restaurants have been recognised for achieving the Healthy Living Award and Plus Award for 10 years.
“It has been established that there is a link between diet and poor health and caterers have an increasing influence as to what people eat. Working in the health sector gives us the opportunity to set an example by providing and promoting healthy food choices.
“Being recognised for the 10 year award will attract additional customers who would like to try the wide variety of healthy choices which is now available.
“Working within an award-winning restaurant boasts staff morale while they also benefit from the learning experience and training. While we recognise we still have work to do in this area, catering services are extremely proud of the staff and would like to thank them for their dedication and support in achieving this award. On behalf of the management and staff, I would like to thank our customers and health professionals for their continued support and assistance in achieving these awards.”
