SIDE Stonewall Scotland staff survey results

NHS Tayside is working with Stonewall Scotland, a leading organisation in the promotion of LGBT rights, to gain a better understanding of how LGBT staff feel about working in NHS Tayside.

In October 2017, Stonewall Scotland ran a survey for all NHS Tayside employees to share their experiences of LGBT equality in the workplaces.  The Survey ran for approximately three weeks resulting in 338 responses from staff.

The results from this survey highlighted that more than two thirds of both LGBT and non-LGBT employees knew how to report bullying and or harassment due to sexual orientation with roughly the same amount reporting feeling confident to do so.  Around one third of LGBT and non-LGBT employees feel that LGBT staff have a visible presence around NHS Tayside.  This number was significantly less when the same questions were asked about the awareness of bi or trans people in the organisation.

As a result of the survey, NHS Tayside hosted a training session for HR staff and staff side colleagues in March 2018 to enhance staff awareness of LGBT issues.  NHS Tayside also has a Public Sector Equality Group which has developed a work plan with some key actions aimed at the LGBT agenda.
