Instrumentation technician Karis Martin was celebrated for her hard work after successfully completing her Modern Apprenticeship training in Engineering Systems at NHS Tayside.

Karis was awarded a certificate for completing the programme from Director of Organisational Development George Doherty during a celebration event at Ninewells Hospital.

The 24-year-old, who lives in Angus, started her Modern Apprenticeship in 2013 and attained her HNC in Engineering Systems.

During her apprenticeship, Karis worked with the Medical Physics department in Ninewells Hospital and has now secured permanent employment in the department as an instrumentation technician.

Karis is continuing with her studies in the Graduate Apprentice Programme, studying Instrumentation, Measurement and Control.

NHS Tayside Director for Organisational Development George Doherty said, “Karis has done extremely well throughout her time in NHS Tayside and I would like to congratulate her on her fantastic achievement. Karis has worked incredibly hard throughout her apprenticeship and in applying her learning in the workplace.

“The commitment shown by Karis makes her a real role model for the Modern Apprentice programme and now as a member of staff. I hope her achievement will encourage more people to consider the opportunities apprenticeship programmes offer.”

Karis said she has enjoyed the Modern Apprenticeship programme and urged others to consider taking part.

Karis said, “The programme has given me so many opportunities and now I will be going into the graduate programme. I would definitely encourage other people to think about doing an apprenticeship. I think apprenticeships are the way forward as it gave me the opportunity I was looking for.”

NHS Tayside has supported Modern Apprenticeships programmes since 2006. The initiative is implemented across a range of departments and specialities. The Modern Apprenticeships vary in length, between two and four years and are at a variety of academic levels and pay bands.
