Garden party appeal for 40th anniversary of Roxburghe House

Roxburghe House first opened its doors four decades ago and to mark this special anniversary staff are inviting members of the public to a garden party at the unit on Saturday, 7 July.

The garden party will provide the public with an opportunity to celebrate this important milestone in the history of palliative care service within NHS Tayside.

Staff are planning a fun-filled afternoon in July which will include music, a delicious selection of home baking, teas and coffee, raffles and special entertainment for children. There will also be the opportunity to walk down memory lane with displays featuring many of the previous staff and events that have helped shape the service over the years.

Clinical co-ordinator for specialist palliative care services Fiona Barnett said, “We are very much looking forward to the 40th anniversary of Roxburghe House in July and would invite members of the public to put the date in their diaries.

“Our staff offer a vital specialist palliative care service to the people of Tayside, providing dedicated support to patients and their families at often very difficult times in their lives. Roxburghe House has over the years developed strong links with the local and wider communities and is held in high regard by the public.

“We are appealing to the public to get in touch if they have any old photos from the last 40 years which they would be happy to lend to our display.  We would also be really delighted to accept any donations towards our raffle and these can be handed in to the reception at Roxburghe House.”

Roxburghe House is a purpose-built specialist palliative care unit in the grounds of Royal Victoria Hospital in Dundee. The unit offers specialist palliative care to patients with cancer and other illnesses and is staffed by a dedicated multi professional team providing care in a supportive environment.
